Accompanied by his wife, Usha, he began the journey with a three day visit to Scotland in the course of which he was invited to the offices of the famous Scottish daily newspaper, The Scotsman, where he received his early training in journalism, nearly a half century ago. He was received by Bill Jamieson, Executive Editor and George Kerevan, senior executives of the paper, together with Magnus Linklater, a former editor and today a columnist for The Times and Scotland on Sunday. Following Glasgow and Edinburgh he journeyed south via speaking engagements in Liverpool, Sheffield, Bradford, Hull and Oxford, where he addressed a packed meeting of the Oxford Union Society, and on to London and, finally, Canterbury.
At a luncheon given in his honour by the London Press Club on 23 November 2005 in the beautiful premises of the Foreign Press Association, Professor Gandhi spoke on ‘The War on Terrorism and the Gandhian Ethic’. Click here for a full account of the event.
