The International Communications Forum will be convening three workshops, open to all present at the conference on Just Governance for Human Security which will be held at Caux, Switzerland, 12-17 July this year, and of special interest to media professionals.
- The Media's role in Syria (Sunday 13 July): Lessons from the civil war in Syria. Do opinion formers have a role in promoting peace? If so what strategies present themselves that can be encouraged and supported by media professionals?
- Governments and Press Freedom (Monday 14 July): Led by William Morris, Chair of the International Communications Forum. This workshop will look at how ethical principles influence professional integrity, how to enable governments to honour the right to freedom of expression.
- Media Fact and Fiction (Tuesday 15 July): To explore how their understanding of ethics influences the way media professionals deal with disinformation, and what to do about the tensions between a journalist’s personal ethics and the goals of media owners. Can the modern journalist claim to have 'Absolute Honesty' as his or her key principle and what constraints does that engender?
