Way back in 1992, when the IC Forum was preparing its first International conference in France at the resort town of Le Touquet, a tall, ambling, broad-shouldered man found his way to the Conference Centre in the Palais de l’Europe. He turned out to be Canadian journalist, Henry Heald, for many years a reporter on Ottawa’s principal daily, and, more recently, a highly appreciated agricultural writer with a world-wide brief.

Henry F. Heald, the Canadian Representative for the International Communications Forum, has just spent an inspiring week in Ottawa and Toronto with Bill Porter, founder of the International Communications Forum (ICF), and Bob Webb, long-time reporter, columnist and editorial writer with the Cincinnati Enquirer, meeting with Canadian Muslim communities and journalism students.

Over 150 media students deepened their understanding of ethical issues when they took part in a Media Ethics Workshop at the Lincoln University School of Journalism on 11 February 2008, organised by the International Communications Forum at the invitation of Richard Keeble, Professor of Journalism.

Two members of the ICF’s U.S. Chapter received key appointments recently. Alan Kania of Denver, secretary-treasurer, was appointed chairman of the International Committee of the Society of Professional Journalists by SPJ National President Chris Tatum of the Denver Post. The committee engages in a wide range of media issues globally.

The ICF has been associated with Reporters d'Espoir (Reporters of Hope) in France since its inception in 2003. It was initiated by young French media persons to provide a balance against the negative slant of news and entertainment in the print and broadcast media. It offers annual prizes in four subject categories and an annual magazine presenting the prize-winning entries selected by committees of experienced professionals
